Exposed Territories

Netherlands, 2024

Exhibition

The exhibition by Tineke van Veen, explores human interference in nature from an ecological and cultural perspective. While we often associate the term "natural environment" with untouched nature, today's nature has been cultivated and altered by humans in countless ways. How do we relate to our environment, how do we interact with it, and what are the consequences of our actions?

The concept of 'exposure' is central to a new series of photographic works where alienation and intimacy converge. This series explores how the environment can be explored today and how it, in turn, can explore us, creating space for active engagement with the non-human. In her photos, created using innovative techniques and materials such as the laser cutter and light, new layers are added. These images, made with a homemade camera, form an interpretation of an alienated reality.
